NANOOK Kayak | Plans & Instructions

The NANOOK kayak is built using fuselage frame construction, which is a modern form of skin-on-frame construction. In contrast to traditional skin-on-frame construction, the transverse frames are not steam-bent but milled using the modern CNC technology. This saves you a lot of time during construction and the result is more accurate and reliable. The components and the battens fit perfectly into each other. The kayak frame is thus ready within a few days and can be oiled and finally covered with skin. The varnish, which can be colored with pigments, makes the skin waterproof and the filigree frame a robust kayak.

kin-on-frame kayaks have the disadvantage that they are difficult to load through the cockpit without a hatch. Installing a hatch is more difficult in a flexible skin than in a hard-shell plastic kayak. I wanted to change this and developed an installation system for a hatch for the NANOOK kayak kit.

If you order the option "hatch system", you will get three additional milled parts, a frame with matching hatch cover of the brand "Kajak Sport" as well as small parts and screws, which you need for the installation. In addition, you only need some sealant (e.g. Sikaflex) as a seal between the mounting frame and the skin. The installation is very simple and described in detail in the instructions.

The frame of the Finnish quality hatch is made of durable ABS, the hatch cover is made of light rubber. The hatch is located on the aft deck behind the boarding aids and has a usable diameter of 24cm.
